I was approached by a good friend who was in dire need of a last minute website to advertise his charity cruise event for Big Brothers Big Sisters [ link ]. Within four days I designed and coded msnbling.com using PhotoShop CS2 and Ruby on Rails respectively.
The site layout and graphics took up most of the development time. I set out to create this site from scratch and really wanted it to reflect the mood of the event's name and the atmosphere that would be present that night.
For the back-end of the site I put in a very simple password authentication system which provided some security to the administration area. Utilizing a simple form to gather information about the sponsors for the events the admin is able to screen them before displaying them on the front page.
I really wanted to use the plugin attachment_fu so when a sponsor filled out the sponsor form they could upload their logo directly instead of having to e-mail their logo to me. With such little time to get the site up and running sometimes you have to go with a less efficient process to get things done. Like my wise friend once said, "Good, Fast, and Cheap... Pick Two."
